Wijk aan Zee is omsloten door duinen en ten noorden van het dorp strekt zich over zo'n 5.000 hectare het Noord-Hollands duinreservaat uit. Een open duingebied met hier en daar zeer bosrijke stukken waar vele verschillende planten insecten, zoogdieren en vogels leven. Wie geluk heeft kan zelfs een glimp opvangen van een vos.
Auto's zijn in dit gebied taboe maar voor fietsers en wandelaars is een uitgebreid netwerk van verharde en onverharde paden aangelegd.
Al met al is het Noord-Hollands duinreservaat een natuurgebied met een unieke waarde.
